About the scholarship program

The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship Program is QUT’s premier offering for high achievers. Two hundred Scholarships will be awarded annually to OP 1 to 2 students in the $2.3 million Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship Program.

In addition to the financial support, the Program allows you to make the most of your QUT experience by excelling in your studies, and through extra development opportunities, to build your leadership skills and professional networks.

Value

Academic Scholarships
Seventy scholarships, valued at up to $24,000 each (paid at $6,000 per year for up to four years) and 125 scholarships, valued at $6,000 each (paid at $2,000 per semester over one-and-a-half years), are awarded annually.

Sporting Scholarships (Elite Athlete)
An additional ten (10) scholarships are offered to high-achieving students who excel in sport. These scholarships are valued at up to $24,000 each (paid at $6,000 per year for up to four years).

Benefits

As a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar you will have access to benefits that will enhance your academic experience. You may like to extend your core studies by undertaking extra modules to develop your leadership or entrepreneurship skills. In the final year of your degree you can also be matched with an industry mentor who can guide you and provide encouragement in your chosen field of expertise. Further benefits will be offered throughout your time at QUT, to ensure you are prepared for the real world.

Additional benefits may include:

  • an accelerated program of study
  • early access to research opportunities
  • the opportunity to represent QUT through the Student Ambassador Program.

College of Excellence

As a Vice-Chancellor's Scholar you will have access to opportunities that will enhance your academic experience. The College of Excellence is an ancillary program that promotes opportunity and support for high achieving students. In keeping with the benefits that accompany the financial reward of the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship, the College of Excellence provides an exclusive suite of support services and benefits that lay the foundation for students to pursue individual interests and aspirations while completing their studies at QUT. The College of Excellence also promotes social, community and networking forums that engage and inspire.

Eligibility

Academic Scholarship Applicants must:

  1. be school leavers or have taken no more than two gap years after graduating from Year 12
  2. have an OP1 or 2 (or equivalent)
  3. be able to demonstrate leadership qualities; community service, and extracurricular activities
  4. submit two written referee reports

Sporting Scholarship (Elite Athlete) Applicants must:

  1. be school leavers or have taken no more than two gap years after graduating from Year 12
  2. must have an OP1 - 5 (or equivalent)
  3. be able to demonstrate leadership qualities; community service, and extracurricular activities
  4. submit two written referee reports
  5. be competing at national level i.e. representing the state in a national competition OR be a national representative competing internationally

Citizenship Eligibility

Additional to the above eligibility criteria, prospective scholars must also meet one of the following to be considered for this scholarship:

  1. Australian or New Zealand citizen or;
  2. Permanent resident or;
  3. Holder of a permanent humanitarian visa or;
  4. International student who has completed high school in Australia

Please note: International students MUST have completed high school in Australia to qualify for this scholarship.

real experiences

The QUT College of Excellence provides invaluable opportunities for both professional and personal development. With the aim of connecting, engaging and empowering students, the College of Excellence offers initiatives and support systems which enrich the overall university experience.

In 2009, the College of Excellence sponsored two students to attend the National Student Leadership Forum held in Canberra. This event enabled delegates to practically apply their skills Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship recipient, Justin Eyles, has used his scholarship to pay for fees.outside of the classroom and discover strategies to develop their abilities as effective leaders.

In terms of social development, the College of Excellence also provides a number of networking opportunities including the Peers Scholars Program, designed to support incoming Vice-Chancellor’s Scholars with their transition into university.
