Frequently asked questions

How do I apply?

To apply for this scholarship program, you need to complete the application form by 28 November 2008.

You can ask your Guidance Officer for an application form or download the application form from this website.

Can I apply for other scholarships?

You should apply for all scholarships for which you are eligible. In most cases you will be awarded only one. If your application is successful QUT will contact you with the offer of your scholarship as soon as possible, so you can make an informed decision about which offer you would like to accept.

Please contact the Scholarships Coordinator on 07 3138 7624 or email s.moncrieff@qut.edu.au.

Which students are eligible for the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships?

High-performing domestic or international students who have completed their secondary studies in Australia (subject to Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship terms and conditions) who receive an OP 1 or OP 2 (or equivalent rank for interstate students). This will also include students who have taken a one or two year break from study after year 12, and who are entering a University for the first time on the basis of their Year 12 results.

Up to five additional scholarships will be offered to students who excel in sport, and who are also high academic achievers. Students must be competing at a national or international level and will be considered for a scholarship if they have achieved an OP 1 to 5 (or equivalent interstate entry rank).

What if I decide not to continue studying at QUT?

The scholarship will no longer apply.

What if I decide to take a leave of absence?

Students can take leave of absence for 12 months once they have undertaken at least one semester of their studies at QUT.

Can I defer the scholarship?

No. Please refer to the conditions of the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship Program.

To be eligible I need OP of 1 – 2 or Rank of 99 – 98 but I have not received my results yet. Do I still apply?

If you think you are going to receive a high OP we encourage you to apply. QUT will cross match with QTAC when results are released. Late applications will not be accepted.

I am applying for the scholarship based on my sporting as well as academic achievement. How will my applications be judged?

Applicants will only be considered if they compete at a national or international level within their chosen sport and also receive an OP 1 to 5 (or equivalent).

What if I don't get the OP/Rank required?

You will receive a letter indicating that you will not be considered for the scholarship as you have not met the conditions, and your application will not be considered any further.

What if I don't get the OP required but compete at a national or international level in my chosen sport?

QUT has been recognised as an 'Elite Athlete friendly' University, by both the Australian Institute of Sport and the Australian Sports Commission.

QUT recognises the demand on athletes through training and competition, and offers these students flexibility with admissions, enrolment, assessment, and special consideration where possible.

Applicants who do not think they will receive an OP 1 to 5 (or equivalent) are encouraged to register for the Elite Athlete Entry Program.

What grade point average will I need to retain my scholarship?

To maintain the scholarship, students must remain enrolled in full-time studies and receive and maintain a grade point average of at least 5 over a full year.

What if I have circumstances out of my control and I am below the grade point average?

If there are special mitigating circumstances, the relevant faculty selection panel will take this into consideration before making a decision to terminate the scholarship. Please contact the Scholarships Coordinator on 07 3138 7624.

Can I do a double degree?

Yes.

Who will contact me with the offer?

The Scholarships Officer will be in touch with you. Please ensure that the contact details you provide on your application form will apply after 28 November 2008.

How will applications be judged?

Primarily on academic merit judged on OP score (or equivalent), and your final subject results, then on your demonstrated leadership qualities, community service, extra curricular activities and referees reports.

If applicable, also on your demonstrated sporting achievements at a national or international level.
