[Print-friendly version] I participated in the START QUT program during Year 12 to better prepare for university in the following year. Completing two business units confirmed my career choice and gave me guaranteed entry into my business course. Laura Parker START QUT Bachelor of Business START QUT is an opportunity for high-achieving students to experience university and extend their studies in year 12. Students study one or two university subjects in the same classes as current QUT students and are awarded a scholarship to cover the cost of their tuition fees. Benefits Year 12 students study university units in the same classes as current QUT students, and at the same time improve their preparation for university. Allows students who pass two units (grade of 4 or above, 7 being the highest) to gain admission to selected QUT courses and start studies in Semester 1, following completion of Year 12. Successful START QUT students may receive academic credit for up to two units (24 credit points) towards an entry course for related units, which has the potential to reduce future debt. Successful START QUT students may also be eligible for up to 4 credit points towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). Further information Students apply during Year 11 to undertake studies while in Year 12. Applications for students undertaking Year 12 in 2011 will open on 2 August 2010 and close on 31 October 2010. Eligibility and applications (Including the application form) Units available Entry guarantee courses Frequently asked questions Information for guidance officers and school contacts Orientation Orientation for students commencing START QUT in Semester 1, 2011, will be held on Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19, and Thursday 20 January 2011. Students will be required to attend orientation only on the campus on which they will study. Successful applicants will be sent an invitation to the address listed on their application form advising which day and campus they need to attend. Please note that it is an expectation of students' participation in the program that they will attend orientation. Students that do not attend orientation may find they are disadvantaged in beginning their START QUT studies.
